Tripod of Fitness - Exercise, Diet, and Rest
Exercise, Diet, and Rest are the three legs of fitness, which we called as Tripod of fitness. If anyone of these legs is cut, fitness cannot be achieved. Generally, for fitness, we concentrate on exercise but do not give importance to diet. We should know that diet is as important as exercise. Just with exercise, we cannot achieve proper fitness, we must have to maintain our diet. We must take proper nutrition. Similarly, rest is also necessary. Rest gives recovery to our muscles and organs to function properly. We cannot compare with these three legs, as which one is better. All three are dependent on each other. So, we never have a choice to choose any one or two. Neither can carry you forward alone.
Exercise
For fitness, exercise is the only process which required physical efforts. Exercise gives you strength and makes you active. Exercise can be done in so many ways. You can exercise as per your requirements. This means for every requirement you have to do different exercises. But from all these exercises fitness is achieved.
To be fit, exercise is important. So you can do any type of exercise for it. Walking for long-distance every day is also sufficient exercise for fitness. But for larger goals, you have to work harder. If your goal is just to reduce fat or maintain fat you can do the following exercise which helps to reduce your fat. These exercises are walking, running, dance (Zumba dance), doing regular work which consists of much more body movement, etc. For more effective fat loss you can go for swimming, cardio, intense workout, etc.
And if you want to build muscles with fitness you can go to the gym, do more intense workout which will help to build your muscles. There are no more options for building muscles, you must do weight training. Without weight training, it is very hard to build muscles. Although muscle building with weight training is not an easy task.
Yoga is one of the most ancient types of exercise and also one of the most effective for fitness. Yoga may be the only exercise which target organs and make every organ fit for proper functioning. Yoga makes your body fit from the inner side to the outer side. Pranayama is a part of yoga that is based on your respiratory system, which makes our respiratory system and its organ fit and work efficiently. Different types of Asanas in yoga make different types of organ fit and work efficiently.
All these types of exercise makes you fit. Fitness can be achieved with other goals as given above.
Diet
Diet is also one of the most important factors for fitness. Proper diet is necessary for everyone. As we discuss above different people have different goals. Some want to lose fat, some want to gain muscles, some want just to remain fit. In all this format diet is necessary.
For building muscles, you need a specific diet with more proteins. Here your diet is as important as exercise. If you don't give proper nutrition to your body, then your body can't gain muscle just with exercise.
Some want to lose fat from there body, they have to focus more on diet. Exercise is not sufficient for losing fat, as you putting any garbage into your stomach, exercise is not going to help you. Here you can give less importance to the exercise but you have to take every necessary step to make your diet properly.
Rest and Recovery
Exercise gives your body movement because of that your muscles need rest to heal the fatigue in the muscles. Rest gives your body recovery time so your muscles and organs recover themselves and work more efficiently. If you don't exercise or don't take proper diet it doesn't going to harm you, but if you don't take proper rest after your exercise and diet, it may harm your body and may take into very difficult situations. So, the rest is a very important part when you are doing exercise. You must take proper rest.
Many studies say that 8 hrs sleep is the proper time quota for sleep, but there are some other factors which can vary person to person sleep quota. You must feel stress-free after sleep. Stress-free means physically as well as mentally. After you wake up, you should feel fully charged. This should be your criteria for proper sleep.
